Catherine Barber, LMFT
Hi, call me Cathy!
I received my M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University in 1993, and licensed in the state of California in 2000.
My specialties include healing trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, codependency, and finding your authentic self after 50.
I have worked in many different settings as a therapist. These include private practice, in-patient psychiatric care, geriatric care with psychiatric services, intensive outpatient programs, and chemical dependency/addiction medicine. That wide range of experiences allows me to use a variety of techniques to assist my clients.
I am a native Californian and enjoy nature, my family and friends, my dogs, history, historical reenactment, and fiber arts such as weaving, crochet, and spinning wool into yarn both on spinning wheels and by hand.
Call or email me to schedule a free,15-min phone consultation to see if I might be a good fit for your needs.
With everything going on in the world, things can often feel stressful. I imagine you might relate. When I feel stressed, what helps me is to remember that I am a pebble in the pond, sending ripples of healing into the world. My being a therapist is my ripple effect: when I help a client to heal or shift something in their lives, they show up more effectively in the world, sending out their own ripples. Those ripples then continue out, exponentially growing and affecting the world in ways I never could’ve imagined. It reminds me that the work I do has a far bigger impact than I can ever know. In this way, I can feel content knowing that I have a far-reaching effect on the world. I can’t do everything; but this, I can do.
